Flu Vaccine Service

Our flu vaccine service aims to provide you with a convenient and affordable way to protect yourself against seasonal influenza.

We can vaccinate all of those over the age of 18 years on the pharmacy premises at a time convenient to you (providing no exclusion criteria apply).

It is highly recommended that those who fall into any of the following categories receive the flu vaccination each year and as such would qualify for the vaccine provided by the HSE free of charge which this year is the Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (Split Virion) BP made by Sanofi Pasteur.

At risk patients:

  • those aged >65 years
  • chronic respiratory disease
  • pregnancy
  • chronic heart disease
  • chronic renal failure
  • chronic liver disease
  • chronic neurological disease
  • immunosuppression due to disease or treatment
  • household contacts or out of home carer to those with increased risk
  • diabetes mellitus
  • morbid obesity (BMI >40)
  • haemoglobinopathies
  • residents of a nursing home or other long stay facility
  • carers
  • those in close contact with pigs, poultry or water fowl
  • healthcare workers
  • those with Down Syndrome

Those with a medical card, GP visit card or HAA eligibility and who fall into one of the above at-risk groups qualify for a free vaccine and free vaccine administration. Those who are in an at-risk group but have no eligibility as stated (i.e. no GMS, GP visit card or HAA) will pay a €15 administration fee but will receive the vaccine free of charge. All other patients who do not fall into an at-risk category but who wish to receive the flu vaccination will pay a €25 fee which covers the cost of the vaccine and administration.

Should you wish to avail of this years vaccine we ask that you bring along your PPS number and GP details on the day and be made aware of the exclusion criteria for vaccination in a pharmacy which include anybody with an allergy to eggs or allergy to any of the vaccine excipients. Also if feeling unwell/running a fever it is recommended to postpone vaccination until full recovery.
